Derek's New Zealand Blog 2012

Tuesday 31st January

Dunedin to Middlemarch

Worked on bus from word go, with intention of starting the Big Adventure. Weather dry but extremely windy, making it difficult to store everything in the garage from the house. Floor sanding workmen arrived at 9am as promised. Bus ready at 8pm, so left for Kay's house to get spare wheel. Returned to get my watch, but returned again to collect sleeping bags. Finally left Dunedin in the dark to drive on State Highway 87 towards Middlemarch, still very windy.
We were off on our Great Adventure in the 23 cylinder minibus. Well some cylinders are fictional. We pasted Clark's Junction and stopped at a picnic area at Sutton, suggested by Brent, Kay's future husband. Brent set the Satnav and was only 100 metres out. Only one picnic table in picnic area. Trees howling in the wind, thought it was a train coming at first. Virtually no traffic so slept well after a hectic day.
